CMY PH joins Season of Creation Celebration: HarmonYouth Living for All

“CMY PH Online Kumustahan”

By: Primavera Elighzha Khan and Marilou Joyce Duremdes

Season of Creation is a liturgical season dedicated to prayer, reflection, and celebration of God as Creator. It also celebrates and reflects prayerfully on the gifts of creation and the mission given us by God to care for creation and respond to its needs and crises today. In response to this, the Carmelite Missionaries Youth – PH (CMY-ph) organized an Online Kumustahan with the theme HarmonYouth Living which was attended by 58 CM Youths and Sisters from Philippines, Indonesia, and even Australia through the Zoom platform.  It was also streamed live via facebook for those who cannot enter the Zoom application because of slow internet connection.

In order to share more knowledge among the youth especially since year 2020 marks the 5th anniversary of Pope Francis’s important encyclical, Laudato si’, an Online Kumustahan fits best among our group to join the ecumenical ecological efforts to save the planet with great energy and commitment, several activities have been conducted to the efforts of the CMY National Council under the guidance and supervision of Sr. Faye Robles. Kumustahan is a Filipino word to ask how the person is doing when meeting for the first time or not seeing each other for a long time.

Laudato Si focused on how we should take good care of our common home. We all know that the earth that we are living right now will soon be lived by the future generation. But it seems like people are still not aware of this fact. In order to open our eyes and minds more, Sr. Cora Gaballo, CM, gave a talk focusing on Climate Change. The talk was rich with information, facts and current situations of what is the condition of the earth. Towards the end of her talk, we are all challenged on how we can commit to a change to save our common home. Yes, it is not easy to commit or change easily. But change should start within ourselves.

The event ended of course, with a prayer, encouraging each participant to hold their plant buddy or any plant near them. The prayer started with the singing of “Mother of all Creations”, followed by praying the “A Christian Prayer in Union with the Creations”, and finally, singing a version of Heal The World sung by various kids. We are sure that the video of the kids singing touched our hearts and made us all realize and think that we, older generations, should take good care of the earth for this will be inherited by them.
