The 5th National Carmelian Youth Camp was held last October 27 – 30, 2019 at Mater Carmeli School, Novaliches, Quezon City, Philippines, with the theme: “CARMELIAN YOUTH LEADERS IN MISSION: BELOVED. GIFTED. EMPOWERED.” The camp aimed to: (1) The participants will be able to know the values of a good leader; (2) Discover, own and appreciate these qualities in them; (3) And commit to serve and stand for what is right.
The facilitators were the Carmelite Missionary Youth (CMY) and their National Youth Coordinator, Sr. Genelyn Ruales, assisted by Sr. Veneranda Ervite, the National Vocation Coordinator. There were 63 participants coming from Mater Carmeli School – Dingle, Iloilo, Mater Carmeli School – D. Tuazon, Quezon City, Mater Carmeli School – Novaliches, Quezon City and Holy Cross of Caburan, Davao. They were accompanied by their respective school heads: Sr. Lani Glorial, Sr. Jojie Mendoza, Sr. Gina Pios and Sr. Judalyn Cabreros, together with the sisters and lay administrators.
The participants were from Grade 4 until Grade 11 and were selected for their leadership potential. They cooked their own food, though those times when they would not be able to do so because of the activities, the Carmelite Missionary Secular (CMS) Novaliches group volunteered to cook for the participants. They slept in their respective tents and did all the sharings, simple chores and team building activities by Munting Simbahan (MS) or Small Church. The different topics related to the general theme were expounded and deepened by the invited speakers. Liturgical prayers were the highlights each day.
The last day was their educational tour to historical places within Manila area: Manila Post Office, Manila Cathedral, Intramuros, National Museum of Natural History and Rizal Park.
