The Carmelite Missionaries are the fruit of the search process and the interior experience of Francisco Palau Quer, a mystical barefoot Carmelite and prophet of the nineteenth century.
- "Always open to the existential question"
- " Always in border road. "
- "Always contemplative on mission."
Francisco Palau intuited, understood and assimilated the commandment of Jesus in COMMUNION key: love of God - love of neighbor. This intimate conviction He encouraged his life and his Work: Your love is ONE and it is called CHURCH.
We try to live the centrality of the Mystery of the Church: Contemplation and announcement of its beauty; and generous service to the Mystical Body of Christ. The mystery of the Church is for us as the prism through which we contemplate the whole reality of the Christian life, our consecration and the commitment of service to the brothers in the concrete history that we have to live.
MISSIONARY CARMELITES ... something more than a "name":
- A dream in France (1840 - 1851)
- A Pastoral launch in Barcelona (1851 ...)
- A concern in Ibiza (1854 - 1860)
- A reality in Menorca (1860 - 1861)
- ... and from Vallcarca
- "Els Penitents", step by step, a universal projection (1862 - 1872).
From the contagion of the Mystic experience (Citadel) and as a result of it, consolidate groups of men and women who try to live it and share it with others, giving rise to the birth of the Missionary Carmel. In the year 1862 the Founder establishes two communities formed of Brothers and Sisters in Barcelona (Vallcarca Area - "Els Penitents"). On the death of Francisco Palau, ten years later, the Congregation of Carmelite Missionaries was already a reality made up of several communities of women that bring together the contemplative spirit in mission and the fraternal style of Carmel Teresian.
We have Mary as: Type and model of the Church; Queen and Lady of Carmel. Master of Virtues and mirror where we can contemplate the Church.
This conjunction propitiates very soon the development of a strong dynamism missionary. Currently the Carmelite Missionaries are extended in several countries on five continents.
