Who is Father Agustí Borrell?
Born on 21 December 1959 in Caldes de Malavella (Girona), Father Agustí Borrell studied Philosophy and Theology at the Faculty of Theology of Catalonia (Barcelona) and holds a Doctorate in Sacred Scripture from the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome.
Since 1996 he has been a lecturer at the Faculty of Theology of Catalonia, where he has taught courses on Introduction to the New Testament and Apostolic Letters, and has offered degree courses in Sacred Scripture. He is also a lecturer at the Institutes of Religious Sciences in Lérida and Barcelona, and is secretary of the Associació Bíblica de Catalunya. In fact, he participated in the translation and edition of the Bíblia Catalana Interconfessional and the Nou Testament Grec-Llatí-Català.
He has published several books and articles; he has participated in the preparation of the Concordances of the writings of St. John of the Cross (Rome: Teresianum 1990), and in the Concordances of the writings of St. Teresa of Jesus (Roma: Editoriales OCD 2000); he was one of the translators into Catalan of the Book of Life, by St Teresa, and of the Spiritual Canticle, by St John of the Cross, and is coordinator of the Congress on Spirituality organised by the Order in Catalonia, which has held four editions, dedicated to St John of the Cross (1991), Teresa of Lisieux (1997), Edith Stein (2003) and St Paul (2009).
On 14 May 2015 he was elected Vicar General, a post to which he has been renewed for the six-year term 2021-27.
