FOOTSTEPS OF HOPE

Barbacoas, Province “Santa Teresa del Niño Jesús” - Bogotá

The project was designed to provide comprehensive training to 40 children and their families in order to prevent child abuse and domestic violence; creating a culture based on coexistence and respect for human dignity in order to form good citizens and transform the social context.

Achievements:

  • Monitoring of growth and development of the attended children brought a decline in infantile undernourishment.
  • Less domestic violence

Two mothers started their own fast food business.

  • Continuity of the formation process of the handicrafts group 
 
 
   

 HEART OF LULLABY
Tumaco, Nariño, Province “Santa Teresa del Niño Jesús”- Bogotá

It was intended to create a musical group for youth that are at risk of social vulnerability and liberate them from the factors of social risk to which they are exposed.

Achievements:

  • It woke up the interest of the youth towards musical culture.
  • It increased social solidarity and received the generous contribution of qualified musicians.
  • It established a more humane and healthy lifestyle among the young recipients of the project
 
   
 

 LIFE BEGINS AGAIN

Bogotá, Province “Santa Teresa del Niño Jesús”

It was meant to promote and encourage the integral health of 35 elderly people in situation of loneliness and poverty: to accompany them in the process of aging in dignity in collaboration with the CMS and voluntary associates of the foundation Carmelite Missionary solidarity.

Achievements:

  • It worked in collaboration with the Carmelite Missionary Secular and volunteers in the implementation of the Project.
  • The trained laity approached the older adults, learned their history and situation involving themselves by holding responsibilities in their families.
  • The older adult finds meaning in their life, in their sufferings and limitations. 
  • Their families were sensitized to understand the situation that the elderly lives. 
 
   
 

 INTEGRAL HEALTH FOR BETTER QUALITY OF LIFE 

San Pedro Pinula, Guatemala, Viceprovince “Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe”

This Project contributed to improve the state of health of 15 rural communities belonging to themunicipalityofSan Pedro Pinula. It attended 330 patients of rural communities who lacked economic resources and basic services, with symptoms of pathology related to diabetes, weight loss, malnutrition, tuberculosis, tropical sicknesses and hypertension.

Achievements:

45 families have benefitted from the project increasing 50% of consuming the nutritious food.

  • 48 families have received training in health, nutrition, environmental sanitation and hygienic habits.
  • 100 % of the benefited families managed to improve the knowledge on food security and nutrition. They learned to prepare soy products.
  • The pregnant women of 15 communities knew the importance of nutrition at the breast feeding stage.
  • Less problems of growth delays and anemia in children of five years and pregnant women by improving the conditions of people’s life.
  • Thrifty firewood kitchens were delivered in nine rural areas that resulted in consequent decrease of carbon dioxide emissions.
 
   
 
EATING IN MY COLOURED PLATE I GROW HEALTHY AND STRONG 

Chiquilistagua, Nicaragua, Viceprovince “Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe”

It developed a nutrition program for 800 children of the Colegio Técnico del Niño Jesús de Praga, Chiquilistagua; through a daily breakfast in order to improve their academic performance, organizing parents for the preparation of food and the training the school staff in hygienic habits and nutrition.

Achievements:

  • 800 students of “Niño Jesus de Praga” school participated in the feeding program.
  • It organized "Support to the dining room of your child" volunteer Committee
  • It improved their academic performance.
 
   
 WHAT A JOY THAT I AM ABLE TO READ AND WRITE

La Laguna, El Salvador, Viceprovince “Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe”

It undertook a literacy program for 20-year-old women or more, in the communities of la Laguna, Comalapa and Concepcion, providing them an integral promotion, strengthening their self-esteem and favoring an accompaniment to their school – age children.

  • Achievements: Unification of forces: ministry of education, youth volunteers, Carmelite missionaries, to the benefit of a vulnerable and discriminated population against their situation of illiteracy. 
  • 40 adults have participated directly in the literacy program and indirectly have benefited their families.
  • The young volunteers have grown in sensitivity and commitment with the reality of the more vulnerable people.
  • Besides their progress in literacy and mathematical operations, the participants has grown in self-esteem, oral expression and appreciation of the knowledge acquired.
  • They obtained the second grade in basic education approved by the Ministry of Education.
 
   
 
 I HAVE A LITTLE SCHOOL THAT ACCEPTS ME AS I AM

La Laguna, El Salvador, Viceprovince “Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe”

The project was aimed at the development of educational programs to promote fine motor skills and speech in 35 people from 3 to 45 years of age with special needs.

Achievements:

  • Nine families have benefited directly and forty people indirectly.
  • Family involvement in the upbringing of their children and identification with the project of school children, committing to give continuity to it.
  • The children have received a healthy and adequate diet therefore better quality of life.
 
   
 

 FOOD FOR MY BROTHER/SISTER

Plan del Pino, El Salvador, Vice Province “Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe”

It was aimed at promoting the project of nutrition for the abandoned elderly and poor families in the area. It counted upon the support of the parish groups integrated in the pastoral work.

Achievements:

  • Construction of the community kitchen
  • Awareness raising of the pastoral agents in the execution of the project
  • Supportive participation of the parish community attending third age people
  • 30 families were benefitted with basic food 
 
   
 

 MULTIWORKSHOP OF INDIGENOUS CRAFTS

Huépil, Chile, General Delegation “Teresa de los Andes”

The project promoted 30 women in the art of woodworking and weaving, generating income for the family and entering the labor market in a permanent way.

Achievements:

  • Consolidation of women groups who learned woodworking and weaving, reaching so far as to sell their products.
  • The work done is recognized by the municipality, giving them participation in the traditional festivals with samples of some of their works.
  • There is a growth in self-esteem, acceptance and the dignity of the women recipients of the project.

 

 
   
 

 CONTINUITY TO THE HELP OFFERED TO THE HIV-AIDS PATIENTS IN SAKASSOU

Sakassou, Ivory Coast, General Delegation “Notre Dame d’Afrique”The Integral Help program to the HIV - AIDS patients and their families offered medical care, regular and balanced diet, social and economic support covering the needs of 58 families affected by the illness.

Achievements:

  • 58 patients of 45 families are attended by the program.
  • Psychological - morale strengthening of the sick, helping them in their problems.
  • A person has been favored with a micro project that gave him autonomy and livelihood.

 INTEGRAL PROMOTION OF YOUTH AND CHILDREN OF THE BOARDING SCHOOL OF TIEBISSOU

Tiebissou, Ivory Coast, General Delegation “Notre Dame d’Afrique”

Young people have benefited from accommodation, food and literacy in the Notre Dame du Carmel boarding school Tiebissou.

Achievements:

  • Progress in school performance
  • The continuity of school tutoring has helped to complete the level of education received at the Institute.
  • The people who had no access to the schooling have learned to read and write.
 

DAY CARE CENTRE FOR CHILDREN AGED 5 TO 13 YEARS

Zabrze, Polonia, Province “Mater Carmeli”

It has provided the children from families affected by alcohol dependence, domestic violence and the lack of employment, opportunities and services, favouring their integral development and social inclusion.

Achievements:

  • Participation in the activities of the day care center and protection from unfavorable environments.
  • Better knowledge of the environment of children and their family problems.
  • Created social networks to help children and their families.
  • Involvement of 30 young volunteers to carry on the project.

 

 
 JOB TRAINING: COURSE FOR WAITER/ESS

Prat de Llobregat, Barcelona, Province “Mater Carmeli”

It gave professional training to 30 students, women and men, indigenous or immigrants in precarious situations to have better possibilities for labor insertion as waiter/ess, offering a theoretical and practical knowledge not provided by companies.

 Achievements:

  •  30 students are qualified to render a professional and quality service.
  • Improvement in the levels of self-esteem and the quality of personal and familiar life.
  • 6 students have entered the labour world.
  • 10 students have acquired labor skills to live with greaterr autonomy in the society.
 

CARE, PROTECION AND PROMOTION OF THE CHILDREN AT RISK OF SOCIAL EXCLUSION

Burgos, Spain, Province “Mater Carmeli”

This project attended 60 children from zero to three years, mostly from immigrant families and in a situation of marginalization by offering opportunities and services for their integral development, social and labor insertion.

Achievements:

  • It has benefited 60 children and 140 women.
  • Growth in the process of personal identity and autonomy according to the possibilities and age of minors.
  • Mothers have been integrated into formal education system and the labor market.
  • Integration of families in the educational process and in the dynamics of a healthy living.
  • Strengthening of working in network with: Caritas, Red Cross and Municipal CEAS.
  • More volunteers have been incorporated to the educational process.
HOSPITALITY IN THE BAOBAB PROJECT

Madrid, Spain, Province “Mater Carmeli”

The program “Pueblos Unidos”, offered lodging and food to young sub-Saharian people living in Madrid; providing basic vocational training for access into employment and accompanying them in the regularization proceeding of their documents

Achievements:

  • It hosted 20 young sub-Saharians came from Mali, Senegal, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Republic of Central Africa, Ghana and Gambia.
  • It gave accommodation, food, transport and formation
  • Insertion of 10 inmates in the labor field.
  • The majority of young people have regularized their legal status in the country.
 

NURSING ASSISTANTS IN GERIATRICS

Santa Coloma de Gramanet, Barcelona, Province “Mater Carmeli”

The project trained adults in precarious situations and with interest to work in Geriatrics, required to enter the labour world.

Achievements:

  • It trained 18 people as nursing assistants in geriatrics, coming from: Colombia, Ecuador, Equatorial Guinea, Honduras, Cuba, Bolivia, Brazil and the Dominican Republic.
  • Strengthened their human values and self-esteem.
  • The participants have been trained for caring older adults, which facilitate their inclusion in the labour world.
 

FEEDING PROGRAM

Mati, Davao Oriental, Philippines, Province “Blessed Francisco Palau”

Se desarrolló un programa de alimentación para niños de la Escuela “Belsonda Elementary School” mejorando su nutrición y su rendimiento académico. Se trabajó en fomentar además, la cultura del ahorro para el auto – sostenimiento.

It carried out a feeding program for "Belsonda Elementary School" children that improved their nutrition and academic performance. Besides, it worked to promote the culture of savings for self - sustaining.

Achievements:

  • 248 students were able to have access to safe and nutritious food.
  • Better quality of life and good school performance.
  • The majority of the students have been promoted.
  • Greater participation and involvement of parents in school activities.

WELL NOURISHED CHILDREN FOR BETTER ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE

Caburan, Davao del Sur, Philippines, Province “Blessed Francisco Palau”

The indigenous students received a supplementary diet three times a week to render a better academic performance.

Achievements:

  • 110 indigenous students have improved their diet and academic performance
  • It has favored the relationship and participation of the teaching staff.
  • Promotion of values such as solidarity and cooperation.
 
 FAMILY CAMPS

Dueñas, Iloilo, Philippines, Province “Blessed Francisco Palau”

A place was adapted for family meetings, youth and children camps for favoring relationships and integration.

Achievements:

  • Appropriateness of spaces for the camps helped to promote positive interpersonal relationships and a healthy living.
  • Acquisition of tents to promote recreational and educational activities with different groups.
 
 FEEDING PROGRAM AT “DON ENRIQUE LÓPEZ” ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Mati, Davao Oriental, Philippines, Province “Blessed Francisco Palau”

A feeding program was carried out in "Don Enrique Lopez", Elementary School three times a week to improve the nutrition and academic performance.

Achievements:

  • 650 students of Don Enrique Lopez Elementary School have received adequate food and nutrition.
  • Best Academic performance and less dropouts.
  • Active participation of teachers and parents in the nutrition program.
 

AIRCON INSTALLATION FOR PSDS LIVELIHOOD

Siay, Zamboanga Sibugay, Philippines, Province “Blessed Francisco Palau”.

In the center of Natural Medicine two air conditioning units have been installed for maintaining food and medicinal plants.

Achievements:

  • Better environmental conditions for treating medicinal plants.
  • Right conditions for workers.
  • Increase in the production of natural medicines and better quality of life for the people
 
FOOD SUBSIDY FOR ST. LUCY GIRLS SECONDARY SCHOOL

Raruowa, Kenya, General Delegation “Our Lady, Mother of the Church”

The girls aged 16 to 20 years, of "Saint Lucy" Secondary School received nutritious food to improve their academic performance and avoid school dropouts.

Achievements:

  • Nutritious food to 129 girls of St. Lucy High School
  • It has improved their academic performance and adaptation to the school activities.
  • High motivation of girls to continue their academic studies.
  • Integral training centered on human and christian values.

HELP TO A SCHOOL

Ixcatlan, México, Medellín, Province “Sagrado Corazón”

The project has developed a therapeutic program for reading, writing for children aged five to thirteen, of 55 indigenous communities of the region, offering psycho - social integration and learning needs.

Achievements:

  • Progress in reading and writing in the children of the indigenous community.
  • Development of the attention, concentration and reflection.
  • Achievement of support materials and equipments.
  • Adequacy of the workspace.
 

ZERO RISK FOR ADOLESCENTS IN THE “FE Y ALEGRÍA” SCHOOL

Chimbote, Perú, Province “Santa Rosa de Lima” (24)        

The adolescents of the “Fe y Algeria” School conducted alternative workshops program to develop creativity, the resilience and values, in order to prevent risk situations.

Achievements:

  • 120 students have developed assertive, artistic, rhythmic and personal defense skills.
  • They strengthened in self-esteem, handling of emotions and decision-making in situation of personal and group conflict.
  • Positive interpersonal relationships among the students, based on tolerance, cordiality and respect.
